Hi

I 'm sorry to have been missing for a few days. We made another trip to Chicago, this time to see a Doctor that's in charge of rehab at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. The roads were icy and I started hyperventilating about half way there. I wish I knew why I have been having these attacks.
Anyway we got there safely and spent about two hours with doctors . They were all so nice and caring...but they are not so sure that they can help me with walking again.. I go back next month and they are going to try everything that they think might help me walk with a walker and braces. We'll see...I'm not giving up yet !
I was fine on the way home thank goodness...no panic attacks!

  1. Good for you, not giving up! So many doctors play down their own hopes I think, as if they're afraid to get ours up. Our family is filled with people who beat their odds (hooray!).

    I'm glad the doctors are nice--and two hours with you, wow. Good luck!

  2. Susan;

    Thanks for reminding me that Dr's usually don't want to promise too much at first...you are absolutly right!

  3. I have been hearing dire things from doctors for years and none of them happened. I'm not putting the entire medical professions down, just a gentle reminder that they say and do what they feel they have to in each case and, of course, they don't want to promise too much. Hold on, believe in yourself and know that we are all holding good thoughts that things will get better and soon. Glad you're back!

  4. I agree with Sylvia and Susan. Remember when the doctor told us that Jon's arm might not grow and could be stunted for the rest of his life when he was 5 after he broke his arm? I think doctors tend to give you the worst case scenario so that all the progress you make will seem that much greater. But then again, Peg, it will be great... it'll be better than the stalemate you've had for the past couple of years. And I know you. You're a fighter. I know you'll work hard and show those doctors just what you can do. I'm so relieved you've got doctors and professionals now who are kind and doing everything they can to help. You deserve it!

  5. These ladies are all right. You keep your chin up and don't let them (doctors) get you down!! You have a lot going on right now - try to calm down and stay positive. I wish I could come over and have a cup of coffee with you. Wouldn't that be nice?

  6. Sorry I haven't commented on your blog for a while - I lost it! I forgot to add it to my list on Google Reader and have only just found you again. You're now on the list!!

  7. Good for you. It makes me crazy when people aren't willing to try possible solutions...mostly for reasons of vanity. I, for one, just want to be out there. When my good friend Janet was visiting while I was in the midst of a great big RA flare and really couldn't walk, she pushed me around the store in a wheelchair and we had a lot of fun!
    I was happy to see a post from you.

  8. Don't give up hope. Drive and determination are 1/2 the battle and doctors are definitely not always right!

    Talk to your family dr about those panic attacks... they're not fun at all!

  9. Doctors err on the pessimistic side to cover their butts. Plain and simple, and understandable, too. So prove 'em wrong!

  10. Glad to hear that you're not giving up. I hope you find a way to stop the panic attacks. I know how horrible they can be. Stay strong.
