If you're worried about retirement, consider this!

A friend sent me this the other day and I thought that it had a lot of promise. My friend and I were trying to come up with ways to supplement our retirement income.  .  This all led to a lenghty and sometimes LOL conversation about what we could do personally to enrich our lives and bring mucho $$$$ to our portfolio.  In full disclosure, a vodka bottle was consumed to get our creative juices flowing.

So with all the doom and gloom about medicare and social security, most of us baby boomers are probably not going to get the benefits that we were counting on to help supplement our income.  Our search for creative ways to add to our nest egg and bottom line is on-going
Below is the article from the London Times that my friend sent to me with a note saying, "trade in your hooker shoes and  G string   (sorry about the visual, it was a large bottle of vodka that we shared)
and grab your blue jeans and ball cap cause ....This could work!"

Outside England 's Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 buses. For 25 years, its parking fees were managed by a very pleasant attendant. The fees were £1 for cars ($1.40), £5 for busses (about $7). Then one day, after 25 solid years of never missing a day of work, he just didn't show up; so the Zoo Management called the City Council and asked it to send them another parking agent.

The Council did some research and replied that the parking lot was the Zoo's own responsibility. The Zoo advised the Council that the attendant was a City employee. The City Council responded that the lot attendant had never been on the City payrole.

Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain (or some such scenario), is a man who'd apparently had a ticket machine installed completely on his own; and then had simply begun to show up every day, commencing to collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about $560 per day -- for 25 years. Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over $7 million dollars!

..... And no one even knows his name.

Bloggo, if you're reading, this could be a good career move for you?

  3. That is amazing and that no one thought to check. The vodka sounds like a good way to plan... although in my case, it'd be scotch :)

Who me, jealous? Just because I'm taking the week off and calling it a vacation just so I don't HAVE to go to work?

Hmmmm, wonder if the grocery store needs a parking lot attendant? :)
