It's officially Fall and the leaves on the trees are already starting to turn beautiful colors, and the smell in the air in the early morning, has a wonderful crispness to it..

For the men in my life, Fall means only one thing, Football !  Who Hoo!!!!
So this week for Quotable Sunday I thought that I would pay homage to this great, true American sport.
So let me ask you..
."are you ready for some foodball?"

"Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein"
Joe Theisman    ( who is Norman Einstein?)

"We can't run. We can't pass. We can't stop the run. We can't stop the pass. We can't kick. Other than that, we're just not a very good football team right now."
Bruce Coslet

"Football incorporates the two worst elements of American society: violence punctuated by committee meetings."
Bern Williams

"If God wanted women to understand men, football would never have been created".
Roger Simon

"When I went to Catholic high school in Philadelphia, we just had one coach for football and basketball. He took all of us who turned out and had us run through a forest. The ones who ran into the trees were on the football team."
George Raveling

"If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother"
Bo Jackson

"You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four."
Dan Birdwell

"Thanksgiving dinners take 18 hours to prepare. They are consumed in 12 minutes. Half-times take 12 minutes. This is not coincidence."
Erma Bombeck

"Football is all very well as a game for rough girls, but is hardly suitable for delicate boys"
Oscar Wilde

 "You guys line up alphabetically by height. This may take a while."
 Bill Peterson

"Women aren’t interested in things their men spend time on besides their women."
Dave Barry

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.”
Bill Shankly

"Winning isn't everything, but it beats anything that comes in second.”
Paul "Bear" Bryant

GO BEARS!

  1. Hey there, Peggy! I guess I'm one of those women who don't understand football. However, I think I'm the only person in our family that doesn't. Everybody else are sports nuts.

  2. ROFL at the coach and the forest!

    I don't 'get' football or any professional sports, at all. I think if I went to Hell, my room would have one chair facing a giant television screen showing football 24/7. That thought keeps me doing good deeds and being nice to everyone every day LOL.

  4. Kay;

    I used to go to our High School football games and never stayed in my seat very long. We went to NW games when i was young but when the Bears were doing the Super Bowl Shuffle and I was able to go to a home game, I fell in love with another home town team.
    The rest of football doesn't interest me at all!
    Hope you're having a good day today!

  6. Great football quotes! Love the funny ones like this:
    "Thanksgiving dinners take 18 hours to prepare. They are consumed in 12 minutes. Half-times take 12 minutes. This is not coincidence."

    Hate to say it but "Go Broncos"!
    Happy Sunday!

  7. I'm not a huge football fan, but I actually really liked all of these quotes. The Roger Simon quote is probably my favorite of all of them :)

  8. Erma Bombeck should've been named a saint for her wisdom. :) But the quote about the guys hitting the trees got to play football summed it up nicely. :)

    Hubby isn't a sports nut; he hunts. His Mom & Sister however...do the words "Go Packers!" mean anything to you? Although at this point I think they've given up on Brett Favre and are cheering on the Carolina Panthers.

    Have a great week!

  9. These were great and brought me a chuckle. I don't understand football at all, even after one of my sons played it. The only reason I went to H.S. games was the fact that Ashton was a cheerleader! My husband loves the Patriots and faithfully watches their games. Me, I stick with reading!

  10. Cheryl;

    I went to my boys games, mostly because I wanted to be there for support and in case one got hurt.
    Really don't understand much. Except I know when they get a touchdown. :)

  11. Becca;

    I really only like the Bears and I really don't watch the whole game. I watch and type at the same time.:)
