Quotable Sunday, My WIsh!

Quotable Sunday is brought to you by Toni, from A Daily Dose of Toni - why don't you join us? Here are the basic and easy-to-follow rules...come on and join in, it's fun! ;)

The rules (for newbies)~Go to your blog and post one or more of your favorite quotes.~Go to Toni's and sign mister linky with the link to your post and then go visit the other participants and leave some comment love.~Spread the word of course...we want lots of Quotes to read. :)

My selection for this weeks Quotable Sunday is a little different then I usually pick. Because of the New Year, I am choosing two Irish blessings to quote in honor of this bright new beginning.

I wish you not a path devoid of clouds, nor a life on a bed of roses,
Not that you might never need regret,
nor that you should never feel pain.
No, that is not my wish for you.

My wish for you is this;
That you might be brave in times of trial,
when others lay crosses upon your shoulders.
When mountains must be climbed and chasms are to be crossed,
When hope can scarce shine through.
That every gift God gave you might grow with you
and let you give your gift of joy to all who care for you.
That you may always have a friend who is worth that name,
whom you can trust and who helps you in times of sadness,
Who will defy the storms of daily life at your side.

One more wish I have for you:
That in every hour of joy and pain you may feel God close to you.
This is my wish for you and for all who care for you.
This is my hope for you now and forever.

If all else fails,
---then I wish this for you!
(Always good to have a back-up plan)

May you be in
Heaven a half hour before the
Devil knows you're dead!

  2. The 1st warms the heart, the second tickles the funny bone. :)

Since you're in an Irish frame of mind, this is perhaps the most unusual, yet oddly touching, Irish toast I've ever read:

    "We drink to your coffin.
May it be built from the wood
of a hundred year old oak tree
    that I shall plant tomorrow."

    ;)

Being a third Irish myself, I have always loved the blessings that I have heard and read over the years.

Awe, thanks Hope! Just the reaction I wanted!
Wow, I have never heard that one before, very odd but very very good! You know the Irish though, they find laughter in what some may think, are starnge places!
My husband got a kick out of it too!
    Have a wonderful week Hope,
May your Monday be like your Friday, and bring you joy!

  8. I think I told you that during my engagement party on top of the Ilikai Hotel some 37+ years ago an Irish fellow came over to our table and said he wanted to do a toast for me. I LOVED it! There was something else in it about "May the wind always be at your back... May the sun shine warm upon your face..."
And then the part about being in heaven a half hour before the Devil knows you're dead.

  13. Whew! Glad you smiled instead of hitting delete. I offered it for the humor it bears but didn't think that after all you've been through that the first line might've been um...not nice. Sorry...brain freeze. It's too cold here!

As for this Friday, I shall use it to eat birthday cake and take the day off. Yes, of course chocolate.. ;)
