For my Son

My son Kevin is still unemployed and still pursuing a career in forrestry.
Today he leaves for Shawnee National Park in downstate Illinois!
He just loves camping and hiking and I still do not understand why he picked us as parents.
My husband and I think that going camping means staying at a Holiday Inn near a State or National park!

I found this little joke to share with him ...but he just shook his head and continued packing his bags!
Hmmmm!

I laughed so maybe you will too!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Three Men on a Hike

Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large
raging, Violent river. Needing to get to the other side, the first man
prayed:

'God, please give me the strength to cross the river.'

Poof! ... God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to swim
across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.

After witnessing that, the second man prayed:

'God, please give me
strength and the tools to cross the river'

Poof! .. God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs and he
was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.

Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed:

'God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross the
river'

Poof! . He was turned into a woman. She checked the map, hiked one
hundred yards up stream and walked across the bridge.

We are cousins, thank ou for telling me!
..and thank you for the encouraging words. Being less then a year from when I was diagnosed, I still get waves of fear sometimes. It passes faster these days then before.
Sorry about your son too. My son is going nuts not having work, which means I'm going a little nuts along with him.
    It could be much worse!

You know, I am somewhat afraid that Kevin will end up moving to someplace like Montana which will be great for him but bad for MOM!
Oh well, he has to do what he has to do and I can visit.
    Have a great weekend!

  10. Well Peggy, tell him he can only go if it's a state you've always wanted to visit. :)

Here's wishing him well in his job hunt and, although it is hard for his species to hear, it was funny...because it's true. ;)

  15. That's EXCELLENT!! My husband's great at rushing into things, so I think I'll just wait for the next golden opportunity to tell him this one. It's too good to waste!

Good luck to your son--to me it sounds like a perfect job. Before I had kids I lived in the city and spent every single weekend camping in the woods somewhere. One Friday one of my staff at the library asked about my weekend plans, and when I said 'camping', she stared at me for a minute and then said, "Camping?" and then... "OUTSIDE?" I had to laugh, she looked so horrified.

  16. I had heard that joke before, and thought it was great. I am not surprised that your son didn't see the humor in it...I don't think mine would have either!!!

  20. Susan;

What a great comment. How funny that your co-worker was horrified that you went camping.
I did some camping when i wasa kid, hated going to the bathroom in the woods..I think that part stayed with me.
My oldest son doesn't really like to camp, but my daughter and my son are crazy for it.
My husband is one of eight boys and his memory of camping was going to a lodge and watching his uncle and father hunt!
His older brothers got to go camping with their dad but the two in the middle didn't. Jim said that he wasn't upset at all!!!
He and I fit very well together.
Hope your vacation is going great and that you stay on our side of the pond for a few more weeks!

  21. Heh... that's fantastic!
I'll have to share that with a few folks I know.
I do hope your son finds the work he seeks.
I love the outdoors, the mountains, the trees, the streams, and wildlife.
It's what I live for, it's what my soul absorbs.
It's why I chose the Rocky mountain area to live so I can understand your son...
    Good luck...

  22. Ha ha loved it. All the best for Kevin and I hope he does well in his chosen career. It's great he has something he loves doing (and I am with you camping for me is the Holdiay Inn) but I am sure something will turn up for him because he has a passion for the outdoors.

  23. Michele;

My son has your passion, thank goodness.
He just got back from Daniel Boone National Park in Ky. Tired but happy!

I can see your passion in your pictures, not hard for me to feel your true passion.
