What a world it would be, if politicians told the truth!
Lately I have been finding it difficult to believe our politician on either side of the isle.
This distresses me, because on first blush, I tend to believe what people tell me. Unfortunately I'm on the third and fourth blush with many.
So this week for Quotable Sunday, I decided to revisit a favorite President of mine known for his honestly.
President Abraham Lincoln was often referred to as Honest Abe.
Below are some of the quotes on truthfulness attributed to him
How refreshing! :)

1. How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?
Four; calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.

2. You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

3. It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: And this, too, shall pass away.

4.Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

5.Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.

6.I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.
7.If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?

My all time favorite is number two;

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

  3. I like #4 the best too. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

    Abe had many great words. Do you think in generations to come the presidents of our era will be quoted for their wise words or the ones that got them in trouble?

    Happy QS!

  14. Great quotes!

    I really like #2:

    You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.

    Very appropriate for these days!

    Have a great Sunday!

  15. Yes, #4 is positively the winning quote. :)

    And I do wonder what future generations can look forward to in the way of Presidential quotes. I grimace at the thought.

    Ronald Regan, "Well...."
    George H.W. Bush, "Read my lips".

    I'll stop now because the closer I get to Clinton, the one which comes to mind isn't very Presidential. :0 {I did not have...}

  16. Hope;

    Let's see, Clinton?
    Well one that sticks in my mind is...well "that depends on your definition of what sex is..."or something like that!
    That one still gets me!
    Your comments always get me thinking

    Jennifer;
    My new outlook is to leave a lot of doubt about whether I am a fool.

  19. I *love* Abraham Lincoln; we went to Washington DC yesterday with the kids and sadly JUST when we were heading down to his memorial it started to pour down rain so we spent the day in the museums instead. We drove by! I'm saving the quotes you chose, to share with my kids today. Happy Sunday!

  20. Excellent post. I agree that politics has already gone to hell in this country so the politicians don't have much to look forward to.

  24. Great quotes

    THis one is so true"

    5.Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.

    Character is what in the end will speak for itself :)
