Living here in downstate Illinois, I  have a healthy respect for the power of the wind.  With our house built on former farmland and without mature tress to slow it down, the wind is a major force whenever a storm approaches.  As I watched the wind blow our baby trees around like they were nothing more then a twigs this week, I decided to use quotes about this fascinating force of nature!

If a certain quote speaks to you like the one from Bob Dylan,
“The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind”
speaks to me, please let me know by leaving a comment.
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by today.

“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”
Jimmy Dean

“If a man does not know what port he is steering for, no wind is favorable to him”
Seneca

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”
William Arthur Ward

“Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.”
Arthur Golden

“Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.”
Winston Churchill

“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.”
Jim Rohn

“Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds”
Buddha

“Wisdom sails with wind and time”
John Florio

“For what is it to die, But to stand in the sun and melt into the wind?”
Kahlil Gibran

"Absence weakens mediocre passions and increases great ones, as the wind blows out candles and kindles fires.”
François de la Rochefoucauld

"It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.”
Jim Rohn

"The rain to the wind said, 'You push and I'll pelt.' They so smote the garden bed That the flowers actually knelt, And lay lodged--though not dead. I know how the flowers felt."

“The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, The answer is blowin' in the wind”
Bob Dylan

  1. My favorite would be:

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”

  3. What a good collection of quotes; I love these and will write a few down to keep. I found it interesting to hear about your windy state!

We're plagued with wind here; the prevailing winds are from the west and they've got nothing to slow them down across the whoooole Atlantic before they hit us---WHAM. Walking along the beach in Donegal is sometimes an agility and strength exercise as much as a day out LOL.

  4. I like the one, I can't change the wind, just the direction of my sails. In other words, act don't just react-my quote.

  8. Susan;

Chicago area where I was born is known for it's strong winds and from both the Lake and the Windy politicians. Downstate, where I am now, has nothing to stop the winds from the planes as it rips through. Eventually with urban growth, I think people in our country that live on the Atlantic side know some of what you are discribing. But then again, you get it from a lot of directions.
Thanks susan always love your comments.

  9. Great quotes. many have a common theme - it's up to us to determine our direction.
I hope the answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind in Washington DC.
