Quotable Sunday #22

Every February 2, the groundhog looks for his shadow, and when he sees his shadow "People"(not Phil) predict six more weeks of winter.
When he does not see his shadow, an early spring is then predicted.

I think it's interesting to note that of these 112 predictions on record so far, Punxsutawney Phil has predicted an early spring 14 times.

As to his accuracy, according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Inner Circle, he is 100% accurate.... However, according to the StormFax Weather Almanac and records kept since 1887, Phil's predictions have been correct just 39% of the time.
The odds for coin tossing in comparison are about 51% to the person doing the tossing, and 49% to the other guy! Hmmm?

This year I plan on just embracing whatever comes.
Hope you enjoy my quotes this week on winter.
Between you and me,
I'm still hoping Phil does not see his shadow this year.

  1. Good Morning Peggy!

Good old Phil! Great topic for the day. I'm living in the present and totally forgot about Groundhogs Day. Living in FL the past 6 winters it has much less meaning!

The weather will be what it will be, and I am so happy to be back in PA with family, that I will not and do not complain about the cold. I might comment on it... but it's not a complaint from me!

    I love this quote!

  3. I just love Will Rogers. :)

Doesn't matter what ol' Phil says: weather in the south can go through all 4 seasons in one week. :)

At least we have our friends to keep us laughing and warm.
